    Create sophisticated gray, charcoal, and black candles with Black Liquid Candle Dye. This concentrated candle colorant blends easily into fully melted wax and allows you to adjust the shade one drop at a time—from a soft smoky gray to a deeper black.

    Liquid candle dye is convenient for both small test batches and larger candle-making projects because it is easy to measure, mix, and reproduce. Use it to color container candles, pillar candles, votives, tealights, wax melts, and other wax-based creations.

    The finished shade will depend on the type of wax, the amount of dye used, fragrance oil, additives, and the natural color of the wax. Paraffin wax generally produces deeper, more saturated colors, while soy and other natural waxes may create softer or more muted shades.

    Because black is one of the most challenging candle colors to achieve, begin with a small amount and gradually add more until you reach the desired shade. Avoid adding excessive dye, as too much colorant can affect wick performance, fragrance, and the way the candle burns.

    Always evaluate the color after the wax has cooled. Melted wax typically appears darker than the finished candle.

    Adding color and testing

    Begin with a small amount of dye and increase it gradually. It is much easier to darken candle wax than to correct wax that has become too dark.

    5. Place a small drop of colored wax onto a white paper towel, paper plate, or other heat-safe white surface.
    6. Allow the sample to cool completely before evaluating the shade.
    7. Add more dye gradually if a darker gray or black is desired.
    8. Record the amount used so the color can be reproduced in future batches.
    9. Pour the candle according to the wax manufacturer’s recommended temperature.
    10. Allow the candle to cure, then conduct a complete burn test.
