Create candles with a rich, jewel-inspired color using Ruby Candle Dye Chips. This candle dye can produce a deeper ruby-red shade in paraffin wax and a softer, more muted red in soy wax.
Each package contains 20 easy-to-use, diamond-shaped dye chips—enough to color approximately 10 to 11 lbs. of candle wax. The solid chips are convenient to measure, store, and add to melted wax without the spills or accidental overpouring associated with liquid candle dyes.
Use Ruby Candle Dye Chips to color container candles, pillar candles, votives, wax melts, novelty candles, and other candle-making projects.

Ruby Color in Soy Wax vs. Paraffin Wax
The finished shade depends partly on your wax. Ruby Candle Dye Chips generally produce a richer, more saturated red in paraffin wax. In soy wax, the naturally creamy, opaque base may soften the shade into a lighter or more muted ruby red.
The final color may also be affected by the amount of dye used, the fragrance oil, the natural color of the wax, and other ingredients in your candle formula. We recommend making a small test batch before producing larger quantities.
How to Use Ruby Candle Dye Chips
- Melt your candle wax according to the wax manufacturer’s recommended instructions.
- Add your fragrance oil before making the final color adjustment, since some fragrance oils may change the appearance of the wax.
- Add the desired amount of Ruby Candle Dye Chips to the melted wax.
- Stir thoroughly until the chips have completely melted and the color is evenly dispersed.
- Place a few drops of the colored wax onto a piece of white paper.
- Allow the sample to cool completely to see a more accurate representation of the finished color.
- Add more dye gradually if you want a stronger ruby-red shade.
- Record how much dye you used so you can recreate the same color in future batches.
Candle dye usually appears darker in hot, melted wax and becomes lighter after cooling. Always evaluate the color after the wax sample has completely cooled.
Create Different Shades of Ruby Red
The amount of candle dye used determines the intensity of the finished color. Start with less dye for a softer red, then add more gradually for a richer ruby shade.
For the most consistent results, weigh or carefully record the amount of dye added to each batch. Always test the finished candle because wax type, fragrance oil, wick selection, and dye concentration can affect its appearance and burning performance.
Important Testing Information
Results may vary between wax formulas. Fragrance oils and other additives can alter the final shade, so testing is recommended before making a full production batch.
Adding too much dye may affect wick performance. Always conduct a complete test burn using your chosen wax, fragrance oil, dye concentration, container, and wick before selling or using finished candles.
